Sunday, July 12: Went on a walking tour run by bangalorewalks.com Took the Victorian Bangalore walk -- it was very interesting, plan on doing their other two tours at some time. Never knew that Winston Churchill spent a fair amount of time in Bangalore -- he didn't really like it but he did go off to two wars and published two books -- and when not fighting he had a lot of time on his hands to read (to make up for never going to college). The tour guide had a lot of great old photos and maps. Unfortunately, historical conservation doesn't seem to be of a lot of importance in Bangalore -- so many of the old structures have been torn down. The tour guide also gave us a good understanding of why Bangalore is the technology center of India (beyond the good weather). Breakfast was included in the walking tour -- nice South Indian fare outside on the 13 floor of a building on MG Road. Good views. MG Road -- not so great looking now with the building of the Metro.
