I hosted a NYE party this year here in Bangalore. Actually all I did was provide a place to have a party and buy some candles -- other folks handled everything else.
The party was a great success -- in the end the weather cooperated and it stopped raining around 10pm -- so we moved the party outside at that point -- perfect venue for some dancing and setting off firecrackers to welcome in the new year!

Note: drinking champagne at midnight on NYE isn't really a custom over here -- it's very expensive and a lot of people don't drink -- so it appears to never have caught on.
