Flying in India (Domestic Flights)

  1. The planes are not boarded in any particular order. They call the flight -- and then everyone just queues up in one huge line.
  2. No charge for normal amounts of checked luggage.
  3. No alcohol is served on any domestic flight. Most times I've only seen water, coffee, and tea served during the flight.
  4. Meals or snacks are served -- even on short flights.
  5. Little bottles of water are served throughout the flight --- very nice!
  6. They never announce when you can turn on your electronic devices.
  7. The flight attendants actually check to make sure your seat back is up and tray is locked on take-offs and landing.
  8. No one waits for the fasten seat belt light to go off on landing -- once the plane is somewhat stopped, everyone is up and about.
  9. There don't seem to be enough gates at any of the airports for all of the flights. So not unusual to be bused out to the plane (or bused back). Nice thing about tarmac boarding/unboarding is that they'll often have airstairs at both the front and back of the plane -- makes it much faster to get on/off the plane.

  1. Charles de Gaulle also has a gate problem. Depending on the plane size it takes four or five bus loads to move people back and forth. And it takes about 10 minutes in each direction. However, they only use one airstair, two would be too convenient.
