Organized a day trip on Saturday to Belur & Halebid to show Adam (US TWer in Bangalore for some meetings) some of the local sights.
Belur is 222 km from Bangalore (about 4 hours by car) with Halebid another 16 km away. They are both temple towns known for their Hoysala temples.
The Hoysalas ruled in the region now known as Karnataka between the 11th and 14th centuries. They were huge patrons of art and architecture and built massive temples that have survived the ravages of time. Click on this link for an informative write-up on Hoysala architecture.
Note: My blogs are a bit out of order -- we stopped at Shravanabelagola on the way back to Bangalore after visiting Belur & Halebid.
