Jaipur - Hawa Mahal (Palace of the Breeze / Wind)

Hawa Mahal is a famous Jaipur landmark built in 1700 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh and designed by Lal Chand Usta in the form of the crown of Lord Krishna. Its unique 5-story exterior has 853 small windows call jharahas that are decorated with intricate lattice work. The original intention of the palace was to allow royal ladies to observe city life without being seen.

The "palace" is really just a facade -- essentially it's a giant screen about 1 room deep -- it's connected to the harem of the City Palace (I guess so that the women could walk from the palace without being seen).
