While in Jaipur, I stayed at a fabulous hotel -- the Taj Rambagh Palace Hotel. The palace is the former residence of the Maharaja of Jaipur and is in fact still owned by the royal family (but managed by the Taj Hotel chain).
The Maharini Gayatri Devi lived on the palace grounds (in a separate residence) from 1978 until her death last summer.
