Sunfeast 10k Run - Bangalore

This morning I got up early to cheer on the TW team running at the Sunfeast 10k run here in Bangalore.

There were many corporate teams at the race running for a cause -- our charity was Parikrma.

Parikrma is an amazing non-profit organization working to change things for the under-served children here in Bangalore.

There are over 600,000 people in Bangalore living in a "designated slum" -- these slums are recognized by the authorities and this makes access to basic sanitation, water, and electricity somewhat possible. Close to 1 million people in Bangalore live in non-designated slums in abject poverty with no safe drinking water or adequate sanitation.

Parikrma supports about 1,000 children in Bangalore. They provide an education to the children in their own schools (K - 12). All classes are in English (which is critical for higher education and to hold down a job that pays anywhere close to a decent salary). After high school, Parikrma provides scholarships and other options for the children to go through professional college / vocational training before placing the children in jobs. On top of that, they provide their kids with 3 meals a day, healthcare, and family care.
