Mysore - Chamundi Hills

Legend has it that the demon Mahishasura, the king of the Mysore, was killed by the Goddess Chamundeswari (aka Chamundi) after a fierce battle. So a temple was built for her on top of the hills surrounding Mysore and named thusly.

There is a long stairway leading to the top of the hill - 1,511 steps in all - we cheated and had the driver take us to the top and then we walked down. About 1,000 steps down, we encountered a large monolithic statue of Nandi the Bull (Nandi is the vahana (vehicle) of Lord Shiva).

Great view of Mysore from the top of the hill -- would like to see it some time at night when the palace is all lit up.

The cow on the steps of the temple cracked me up for some reason.
