Mysore - Lalitha Mahal Palace

Mysore is the 2nd largest city in the state of Karnataka. It's about 145 km (91 miles) from Bangalore -- about a 3.5 hour drive. The name Mysore is an anglicized version of Mahishuru, which means the abode of Mahisha -- a demon from Hindu mythology.

This was my 2nd trip to Mysore -- visited the city two years ago when I was in India on vacation.

We stopped for lunch at the Lalitha Mahal Palace for lunch (it's now a hotel). The palace was built in 1921 to house the Viceroy of India. It's a beautiful place, especially the dining room. It also houses the first elevator installed in Karnataka.
